It may seem odd to rate anything in Riedel's Sommeliers series 5-stars for value, but at least in comparison with buying one glass at a time, the set of two definitely is. The glasses are exquisitely crafted - finely balanced and flawlessly blown. It's hard to imagine something so large weighing so little, but the glass is super-thin. Careful handling is required. My "Burgundy Grand Cru" (such as it is) is aging in my cellar, so I haven't tried the glasses with their perfect varietal, but my first try was with a bottle of 2012 Pesquera Ribera del Duero. It might not be a recommended grape for this glass, but it really brought out the flavor. Highly recommended!I was worried that these might not be the genuine Sommelier version given the price but they are definitely real (I have an earlier set of the crystal Somm and also the glass restaurant version). I purchased these to replace a sommelier burgundy glass I recently broke. They are smaller and lighter than the early edition of the riddel sommelier burgundy glass - the Riddel is now much more comparable to the Zalto or Gabriel in terms of crystal weight/thinness. I had previously preferred the Zalto over my riddel sommelier but I’m absolutely enjoying the new design and think it offers a nice alternative bowl to the Zalto. If I could only buy one it would be a coin flip with but the Riddel is definitely easier to clean.Riedel quality and a wonderful 15 year anniversary gift for the two of usSecond only to the Superleggero version. This is the glass that shuts the door on every other design. Perfect for all fine wine except Champagne. Super big barrel designed with a rolled lip that sends the wine to the perfect part of the pallet. This is 40% less expensive that the Superleggero and has a shorter stem which makes it sturdier. You don't mind letting friends drink out of this more user friendly glass or taking this glass to a tasting. Not sure if the special set-of-two price of $95 USD is due to them being 2nd's or if I was just unlucky. At the base of the stem on 1 of the 2, there is what I'd call a blemish. See photo. At first, I thought it was a crack, but now think it's just a blemish in the glass. After 4-5 uses, it has not yet broke, but I'm extra cautious with this one stem. I keep a wine marker on it to be sure I don't give it to a guest and have it break on them. I really love the shape and the feel of these very thin/delicate feeling glasses. I have a fairly extensive set of Vinum stems but these are my first Sommeliers stems.I HAVE OWNED AND BROKEN SEVERAL OF THESE BEAUTIFUL WINE GLASSES, THESE DID NOT COME IN THE CYLINDRICAL TUBE AS SHOWN IN THE PICTURE, THATS WHY THEY ARE LESS EXPENSIVE AND THESE ARE MADE IN HUNGARY THE ORIGINAL ONES WERE MADE IN AUSTRIA, THEY ARE STILL ATTRACTIVE AND YOU'LL NOT BE ABLE TO DISCERN ANY DIFFERENCE. AMAZON OR RIEDEL SHOULD REMOVE THAT PICURE AND REPLACE IT WITH A CARDBOARD BOX WHICH IS WHAT THEY COME IN SO THAT POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS KNOW WHAT THEY WILL BE GETTING.As expected, they are lovely and fun to use, but you have to be extra careful with them because they are extra delicate compared to most fine wine glasses.I've known this glass for many years so this isn't something new. I did want to address the shipping. The box of glasses was boxed inside another much larger box that was full of bubble wrap around the Riedel box, then also filled with those sealed air bags. There was NOW WAY the shipper could break these glasses, if the boxed had been dropped on the ground. This glass should be hand washed, being very careful when cleaning the lip of the glass, as it is thin. It is perfect for a California Cabernet Sauvignon.Amazing glasses. Nicest I have ever owned. A real chime when you clink 2 together. They are thin so you have to take a lot of care with them, but so you should for something so beautiful.Great glass, but huge. Way bigger than I expected and I had some Riedels before. This is clearly due to my own inadequacy in wine glass terminology, but I was expecting a glass you could at least hold in a man’s hand. This is obviously a specialist glass !Too bad I broke one of them before I even get to use it! Great quality glass.
